Ryan Grover opened Quality Construction and Restoration in Phoenix, AZ in 2009 as a result of a much-needed career change.

Having been a police detective for over ten years, Ryan wanted to spend more quality time with his family. “I didn't get to see my wife or children at all,” explains Ryan, “I'd miss holidays and major family events all the time. I would even have to work on Christmas!”

He had learned much about restoration work from his wife's family, who had worked in the industry for years and decided to open his own restoration business.

Growing Pains

Ryan was able to successfully open the Phoenix location due to an abundance of referrals from general contractors who couldn't offer the restoration services Quality Construction provided.

Toward the end of 2011, however, Ryan knew he needed to expand to keep the business successful. After looking into a number of markets, he decided on San Antonio.

With no established referral network, this meant building the business from the ground up. “We were faced with starting from scratch to get new jobs and exposure for the business,” says Ryan, “We started with nothing.”

So he took a huge risk—he moved his family to San Antonio and began trying to spread the word about Quality Construction and Restoration by making cold calls to the new market.

But having no online presence made it difficult to gain any traction.

He had listed the company in a number of online directories, but felt it wasn't enough to differentiate him from the competition. “You're just another name in a directory. You still need to do more to push your name out there. Everyone now goes online to search for emergency services and when they do a Google™ search, we needed to pop up on the front page and we weren't.”

Taking Care of Business

Just as he was beginning to run out of ideas on ways to drive business to the new location, a Yodle representative contacted Ryan.

“The timing couldn't have been better,” says Ryan, “At that point, I only had a little bit of marketing money. I decided to try Yodle so that I could at least say I gave it a shot, though I didn't expect much from it.”

But I am happy I took the risk—the calls started coming in within 48-72 hours of signing up!

In just the past 2 ½ months Quality Construction and Restoration received over 85 calls and landed 10 to 15 new jobs.

“Yodle has been a game-changer for our business,” says Ryan, “The smallest job we closed was for $2500 and that paid for Yodle more than two times over.”

And according to Ryan, that's not all.

We also received jobs for $5600, $7000, $8000 and just last week we landed a job for $18,000 from Yodle!

Through Yodle's whisper feature, he knows if a Yodle call came through the moment he picks up the phone. “When I answer the phone and hear it's from Yodle, I just get so excited,” explains Ryan, “ I get a lot of calls throughout the day, but when I hear that ‘Yodle!' I know right away that it's a potential customer.”

Yodle made his investment worth the risk. “When we came to San Antonio, we didn't have Yodle. And I don't want to sound overly dramatic here, but I honestly don't think we'd be in business right now without them. Now we've already increased our marketing budget with Yodle so we can get even more business!”
